Mictlan is the final destination of the travel dead people had to do in the afterlife, passing over many stages. Like Paradise in catholicism. Also, aztecs believed that Tonatiuh (The Sun God) went down to light up the land of the dead when it was set in the living world, thus the twilight setting.

Mictlan translates into Land of the dead

The black butterflies are named Tzitzimimes; messengers of Death, and they were the soulreapers of the azthec mythology...
